• The first private secondary school in the district was started in Kumta on 04.06.1908 with the blessings of Shrimad Indirakant Swamiji of Gokarn Parthagali Jeevottam Math.
• The school was named as Gibb High school as a token of deep gratitude to Mr. M. C. Gibb, the then commissioner of southern division for his help getting recognition and bringing this school under ‘ Grant in Aid ‘ in 1911.
• The Scottish Cotton merchant Mr. John Smith Chrystal gave his private bungalow with the panoramic surroundings on the top of a hillock to accommodate the school.
• We are extremely grateful to the donors who provided the necessary class rooms.
• The need of a hall cum auditorium was solved by Late. Baron Vishnu Bab Dhempe, Goa.
• The family of Late. Rao Saheb N.S.Kamat provided a well-equipped ‘ Kamat Laboratory ‘.
• Because of the efforts of Late. Dr. B.M.Pai the school succeeded in getting a big playground – Manaki Ground.
• The society has constructed Mahatma Gandhi Stadium and a big shopping Complex to develop the playground.
• The family members of Late. Shri V.M.Pai (the former teacher of Gibb High School) has helped the school in getting a beautiful computer lab. The Rotary club Udupi – Manipal has helped to equip this computer lab with the help of International Rotary foundation by their Matching Grant Scheme. We are grateful to our past students Smt. Usha Kamat and Karant Brothers.
• Syndicate Bank Manipal has helped to replace the old furniture on the eve of centenary year to be celebrated in 2008.
• The Golden Jubilee was celebrated in 1958 – 59. The first President of India Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad inaugurated it. An auditorium – Rajendra Prasad Hall – was built to commemorate the occasion. It is the center of many educational and cultural activities, not only of the schools but also of the public at large.
• One of our past Head Master Late. Shri K.G.Rao was awarded “ The National Award” (as best teacher) in the year 1964 by the then President of India Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
• Shri G.S.Bhat is working as the Head Master of the School since June – 2006.
• The students who studied in this school have come up in their life and have occupied esteemed posts in India and abroad.
• Many students have secured ranks in the Matriculation (Bombay and Poona)/ S.S.C / S.S.L.C (Bangalore) examination and have brought laurels to their family and school.
